HEADSHOT is a workshop exploring the history, significance, and psychology of self-representation as seen through the lens of contemporary artists. HEADSHOT looks at artists who undermine conventions of portraiture ranging from the traditional seated portrait to the mug shot. Focusing on works from the MCA's collection, the workshop raises questions concerning the fluidity of identity and the possibility for many different "yous."

Looking critically at the proliferation of digital images—our ability to immediately post cellphone self-portraits to a Facebook profile, for example—the workshop considers the social and personal ramifications of this phenomena as a springboard for discussion and a hands-on activity.

HEADSHOT is led by artist and Chicago-native Carrie Schneider, who also shares an insider's glimpse into her own practice, including her new film Slow Dance, which debuts during her UBS 12 x12 exhibition at the MCA from December 4–27, 2009.

Light refreshments are served prior to the workshop and vouchers for free parking in the MCA garage are provided pending availability.
