About the Speakers
Kiran Deol is a comedian, filmmaker, and actress whose work tackles difficult topics with intimacy, poignancy, and humor. Deol was most recently seen in the NBC/Hulu series Sunnyside from Executive Producer Mike Schur. Other TV credits include How To Get Away With Murder, The Mindy Project, Modern Family, The New Girl, Weeds, Parenthood, Grey’s Anatomy, and Newsroom. She hosted the series Soul Food for Vice.com, and the documentary series Spotlight California.
Film credits include a lead in the independent feature film Farah Goes Bang, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the first ever Nora Ephron Prize. As a filmmaker, her film Woman Rebel, a documentary about women rebel soldiers, was nominated for an Emmy, shortlisted for an Oscar, and distributed by HBO. Additionally, Sundance released her short film American Haze about her experience as a first generation immigrant. She is also a regular host on Crooked Media’s all-female podcast Hysteria.
Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle is an interdisciplinary visual artist, writer, and performer. Her practice fluctuates between collaborations and participatory projects with alternative gallery spaces within various communities to projects that are intimate and based upon her private experiences in relationship to historical events and contexts. A term that has become a mantra for her practice is the "Historical Present," as she examines the residue of history and how it affects our contemporary world perspective.
Her artwork and experimental writing has been exhibited and performed at The Studio Museum in Harlem, Project Row Houses, the Hammer Museum, the Museum of Art at The University of New Hampshire, SFMOMA, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Páramo in Guadalajara, Mexico. Hinkle is also the recipient of several awards including the Center for Cultural Innovation’s Investing in Artists Grant, Social Practice in Art (SPArt-LA), Jacob K. Javits Fellowship for Graduate Study, the Fulbright Fellowship, and the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artists Grant and SFMOMA’s SECA Art Award in 2019. She is the author of Kentifrications: Convergent Truths & Realities (2018) published by Sming Sming Books & Occidental College and SIR (2019) published by Litmus Press. Hinkle is currently an assistant professor of painting in the University of California, Berkeley’s Department of Art Practice.
Jordan Nassar earned his BA at Middlebury College in 2007. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions globally at institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art; Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY; Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, NY; Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles, CA; James Cohan, New York, NY; and The Third Line, Dubai, UAE. Nassar was the subject of two institutional solo exhibitions in 2019: Jordan Nassar: Between Sky and Earth at Princeton University's Art@Bainbridge and his major solo exhibition, The Sea Beneath Our Eyes opened at the Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv in September 2019.
Nassar is in the permanent collections of the Israel Museum, Tel-Aviv, Israel; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA; Marciano Art Foundation, Los Angeles, CA; Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY, where he is included in the current exhibition Making Knowing: Craft in Art 1950 – 2019. Nassar lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
